desktop stuff
- LCD monitor, better than 1440x900, bigger than 19 inches diagonally, speakers, DVI input
- A second, matching monitor would be swell, too.
Labeler
- Dymo has models that will print on heat shrink tubing
- Brother P-Touch models seem to have a broader range of tape sizes
servers and parts
- HP rp3440 -- fastest available small sized (< 4U) PA-RISC machine. Up to 2 1GHz dual core PA89000 CPUs.
- A nice SPARC machine. T5120, T5140, T5220, T5240 or similar. A nicely configured V215 would also do.
- An AIX machine. 9110-51A or similar
- HP rx1620, rx2620 or rx2660. Small (1U or 2U) Itanium2 machine. (An IBM 8834-32X might work, too.)
- Apple Xserve G5 -- 1U, 2.3 GHz dual processor, 3 SATA drive slots (these systems apparently do not support Wake On LAN or other remote management. In keeping with the desire to keep it shut down most of the time, a remote power control device will be needed. Which is a shame, really.)
- LAN management adapter for the backup machine. Intel Remote Management Module 2. AXXRMM2.
Electrical stuff
- network controlled PDU to control power to systems without network based power control (like the tape library and Dockstars). APC AP9210 or somesuch.
- network card for the APC SmartUPS 1400 smartslot. AP9617.

- Dell Y4971/Y4972 PowerEdge 2850 Rapid Rails Kit
