desktop stuff

  • LCD monitor, better than 1440x900, bigger than 19 inches diagonally, speakers, DVI input
  • A second, matching monitor would be swell, too.

Labeler

  • Dymo has models that will print on heat shrink tubing
  • Brother P-Touch models seem to have a broader range of tape sizes

servers and parts

  • HP rp3440 -- fastest available small sized (< 4U) PA-RISC machine. Up to 2 1GHz dual core PA89000 CPUs.
  • A nice SPARC machine. T5120, T5140, T5220, T5240 or similar. A nicely configured V215 would also do.
  • An AIX machine. 9110-51A or similar
  • HP rx1620, rx2620 or rx2660. Small (1U or 2U) Itanium2 machine. (An IBM 8834-32X might work, too.)
  • Apple Xserve G5 -- 1U, 2.3 GHz dual processor, 3 SATA drive slots (these systems apparently do not support Wake On LAN or other remote management. In keeping with the desire to keep it shut down most of the time, a remote power control device will be needed. Which is a shame, really.)
  • LAN management adapter for the backup machine. Intel Remote Management Module 2. AXXRMM2.

Electrical stuff

  • network controlled PDU to control power to systems without network based power control (like the tape library and Dockstars). APC AP9210 or somesuch.
  • network card for the APC SmartUPS 1400 smartslot. AP9617. Installed one of these 2013-10-18.

Rackmount hardware

  • Lots of M6 cage nuts and screws. http://www.scienceandindustrial.com/191_page_1254401.htm is the cheapest I can find at this time.
  • square hole rackmount kits for systems:
    • rackmount kit for Sun V20z
    • rackmount kit for Sun x4100
    • rackmount kit for Sun V210
    • rackmount kit for APC SmartUPS 1400 SU032A low priority
    • Dell Power Vault 136T 4U Plus Rapid Rail Kit 27KDY for tape library low priority
    • Dell Y4971/Y4972 PowerEdge 2850 Rapid Rails Kit low priority
    • Dell 9K512 rapid rail kit for PowerEdge 2650 low priority

Network

  • 2 and 3 meter LC-LC optical cables
  • MACSEC and Shortest path bridging capable switches
  • Infiniband HCA cards and CX4 cables
  • 8P8C keystone jacks and 4 or 6 outlet faceplate for office Finished this task on 2013-08-22.
  • Terminal server. Cyclades TS-3000 or similar.

other

  • A SIP phone with a working speakerphone setup. Not a Cisco 7905.
  • LTO-3 drives for Dell PV136T
  • TEMPer1 USB thermometer thing for some environmental monitoring
  • Hardware random number generator (see Mouse Trap Bubble Light Entropy Engine)
